Thursday evening, my daughters asked why they cannot get connection into the internet. Kak Long as always wants to YM her friends, Ayin need to access the net for some information for the assignment which is due next Tuesday, Syia just want to play games, me blogging and surfing, what else ekk? Highest probability is that I may have forgotten to pay the streamyx bill. It's OK, would do that on Friday early morning before going to office.
I did that and called Syia to check whether the connection is up in the afternoon, when I get home they said, "no ma, the internet is still not OK". Busy with the preparation for iftar and later sahur, I forego the idea of checking what when wrong with the connection.
On saturday, since it was still not able to get connected to the internet, I called up the TM customer care line. You get the machine operator voice "tekan 1 untuk Bahasa Melayu, press 2 for English"
After you press 1 or 2, then you have to wait for another 6 numerical instructions, after that you wait if you can get connected to a human service operator. If you are unlucky they all busy and you will be entertained by some music.
Finally after getting to someone, told her my problem, she asked about the modem, told her I saw only 2 LED lighted up, the LAN LED wasn't lighted up. She said either the network cable or the modem itself. She asked if I could try to change the cable to check if the cable is the cause. If the modem is faulty I were to call again so that she can log a report for the technician to come and troubleshoot the modem.
When Ayin came home from school she was asking whether the internet was OK. Said no and told her the modem may be faulty and she was saying that she has to get some infor for her assignment which is due on Tuesday. Hubby and I took the modem to a computer shop but they said, it was 0.01% probability that the network cable would be faulty, it would be either the modem or the network card. The guy said to bring in the CPU for him to check and determine if the network card is faulty. If I eliminate the network card then I would be sure it is the Modem. For the modem I have to call TM to repair or replace.
Back to Ayin's problem, just remember that we do have the TMnet connection under Kak Long's account. I did it long before broadband was in. Using Kak Long's name to get a special rate as a student. It was like when she was in standard 6. Compared to streamyx the narrowband connection is terribly slow, but it is still available for use. Lucky I didn't disconnect it when we subscribed to streamyx. But this morning, as usual I just try to get into the net before work, but failed. I hope it is just a temporary line problem and hope that Ayin has finished her work. Otherwise....may have to think of some other option.
So if you all are NOT seing much of me nowadays, it is because my connection is still not OK.
